Following is a list of links and letter submission options for Michigan newspapers in alphabetical order. If your local paper is not listed here, go to their web site and look for the letters or opinion section for instructions. Good luck!
Ann Arbor News. Readers can send letters and essays electronically to The News. Be sure to include your address and daytime telephone number.
The Detroit Free Press. All writers must provide full name, full home address and day and evening telephone numbers. Letters should be 200 words or less and are subject to editing. Anonymous letters, letters to third parties and letters to other publications will not be considered. Please put the letter in text of the E-mail, not as an attachment.
The Detroit News. "Please include home and work phone numbers, plus city of residence, for verification. We prefer letters of 250 words or less. Direct rebuttals to editorials may be up to 300 words. Letters are subject to editing and become the property of The Detroit News. We do not consider letters to other publications."
The Flint Journal. Include your first name, middle initial, last name, address and day and evening phone. When writing in response to an item in the newspaper, please include the page number and the date it ran. If writing in response to an online article, please include the URL and the date. All letters should be concise and written exclusively for The Flint Journal. All submissions become the property of The Flint Journal; submissions may be edited and may be published or otherwise reused in any medium.
The Grand Rapids Press. All letters are subject to condensation and editing and must be limited to 300 words. Space is offered for comment, not publicity. The address and phone number of the writer must be furnished. Writers are allowed one letter each 60 days.
Lansing State Journal. Letters must be 150 words or fewer. Include address and telephone number for verification purposes only. Letters are subject to editing.
Midland Daily News. Please include your real name and a daytime telephone number for verification.
Muskegon Chronicle. All submissions become the property of The Muskegon Chronicle; submissions may be published or otherwise re-used in any medium. Letters must include full name, address and telephone number for letters to be verified. We do not print anonymous letters or those that have appeared in other newspapers.
